Sustainable and organic socks

Organic and sustainable socks — what Democratique does differently

Democratique Socks switched to 100% organic cotton across the entire range in 2020. Not a premium tier, not selected styles — every sock in every collection. The cotton is certified organic, and the finished sock carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification testing every component for harmful substances. This is the standard we have held continuously since the early years of the brand.

Organic combed cotton

The fibre in every Democratique sock is organic combed cotton — 75% cotton, 23% polyamide for shape resilience, 2% elastane for fit memory. Combing removes the shorter, coarser fibres from the raw cotton, leaving a longer, smoother, stronger fibre that produces a denser, softer, more durable fabric at 200-needle density. The result is a sock that holds its shape, holds its colour, and lasts 3–5 years of daily wear.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tests every component of the finished sock — the cotton, the dye, the elastic at the cuff, the finishing agents applied during production — for harmful substances including pesticide residues, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and pH levels. For socks worn against bare skin for ten or more hours a day, this matters. Democratique has held this certification continuously across the full range.

Tree planting

Since June 2021, Democratique has planted a tree for every order placed at democratiquesocks.com. In partnership with tree-nation, trees have been planted in Nepal, Tanzania, and Madagascar. As a certified 1% for the Planet member, this commitment is part of a broader sustainability approach rather than a standalone campaign.

Packaging and shipping

We are always looking at the next step in the supply chain — packaging, shipping methods, and production practices. Read more about the full sustainability approach on the sustainability page. Browse the full organic cotton sock range.
