Sock Care Guide – How to Make Your Socks Last Longer

To keep your socks comfortable, durable, and looking new for as long as possible, follow these simple care tips.

1. Wash Socks Inside Out

Always turn socks inside out before washing. This helps remove sweat, bacteria, and skin particles while protecting the outer fabric and colors.

2. Wash at Low Temperature

Wash socks at 30–40°C (86–104°F). Lower temperatures protect cotton fibers and elastic threads, helping socks keep their shape and durability.

3. Wash Before First Wear

New socks should be washed before the first use. This removes production residues and allows the fibers to soften and settle naturally.

4. Avoid Tumble Drying

Whenever possible, air dry your socks. High heat from tumble dryers can weaken elastic fibers and shorten the lifespan of your socks.

5. Wash with Similar Colors

To maintain vibrant colors:

  • wash dark socks with dark clothing

  • wash white socks separately

  • wash bright colors with similar shades

6. Do Not Overload the Washing Machine

Avoid overloading your washing machine. Giving socks enough space reduces friction and prevents unnecessary fabric wear.

7. Store Socks Properly

Fold socks together instead of stretching them into tight balls. This helps preserve the elasticity and shape of the sock.

Originals Fine Rib Socks — Clear Purple

Purple is having its moment in menswear, and Clear Purple is the version that earns it. Not dark and brooding, not pale and tentative — this is a mid-tone, pure violet-purple with enough saturation to read as a genuine colour choice and enough clarity to avoid any muddy or grey undertones. "Clear" is the operative word: this purple is unambiguous, and that is precisely what makes it work. The only true mid-purple in the Originals Fine Rib range, it photographs against flowers for a reason. Same 200-needle organic combed cotton construction and hand-linked toe, OEKO-TEX certified, knitted in Istanbul. Designed in Copenhagen.

Colour & Styling

Clear Purple occupies a specific and distinct position in the range. Where Iris Blue sits in the blue-violet zone — cool, muted, closer to periwinkle — Clear Purple is unambiguously purple: a warm, mid-saturation violet that reads clearly as purple in all light conditions. It is not a lavender (too pale and grey), not a deep aubergine (too dark), not a lilac (too desaturated) — it is a clean, direct purple, the kind that works in outfits where a more conventional accent colour would feel too expected.

In practice, purple works best as an ankle-level accent against cooler, more neutral palettes. Grey is the natural partner — charcoal grey trousers ground the colour and let it shine. White and off-white chinos let it be more casual and relaxed. Navy creates a strong cool-on-cool contrast that reads as deliberately considered. The product images show it against flowers, which captures the colour logic exactly: purple belongs in natural, considered, slightly unexpected contexts.

Best footwear:

  • White leather or canvas sneakers — clean neutral ground that lets the purple read clearly — see sneaker guide →
  • Dark brown or tan leather loafers — the warm leather creates a complementary warm-cool pairing — see loafer guide →
  • Grey suede or leather shoes — tonal cool pairing
  • Black leather Oxford or Derby — high contrast, formal-creative context
  • Tan suede Chelsea or chukka boots — see boots guide →

Best trousers: Charcoal grey wool or flannel — the definitive pairing · Mid-grey chinos · White or off-white chinos · Navy trousers (cool-on-cool contrast) · Light denim

FAQ

What shade of purple is Clear Purple exactly?

Clear Purple is a mid-tone, mid-saturation violet-purple — neither pale nor dark, neither blue-leaning nor red-leaning. The "clear" in the name refers to the purity of the colour: there is no grey, brown, or muted quality to it, just a direct and unambiguous purple. It sits between lavender (too pale) and aubergine (too dark), in the tonal range of a ripe plum or a classic violet. In all light conditions it reads unmistakeably as purple.

What is the difference between Clear Purple and Iris Blue?

Iris Blue sits in the blue-violet zone: it is cool, muted, and closer to periwinkle than to purple — a colour that reads as blue with a purple dimension. Clear Purple is unambiguously purple: warmer, more saturated, and clearly in the purple family rather than the blue family. Iris is the sock for someone who wants a subtle, unexpected cool-toned accent; Clear Purple is for someone who wants purple to be visible and direct. Both pair well with grey and white, but Clear Purple creates a stronger visual contrast.

Are purple socks appropriate for men?

Yes — particularly in smart casual and creative business contexts. Purple has a long history in menswear as an accent colour: it appears in ties, pocket squares, and shirts in tailored dressing and has been adopted into contemporary casual style as one of the more considered colour choices. The key is context and outfit simplicity — purple at the ankle against charcoal grey trousers and clean shoes reads as deliberately stylish. Against a busy, multi-coloured outfit it competes rather than complements.

What trousers work best with purple socks?

Charcoal and mid-grey are the strongest pairings — the cool neutral trouser provides the ideal backdrop for a purple accent without competing. White and off-white chinos let the purple read as more casual and relaxed. Navy creates a strong cool-on-cool contrast that works particularly well in creative or smart casual settings. Avoid warm mid-tones like tan or camel as the primary colour, as the warm earth tones clash with purple's cool undertone.

Are these socks organic and certified?

Yes. Made from 75% organic combed cotton, 23% polyamide, and 2% elastane. The cotton is certified organic, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. The finished sock carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, confirming every component — including the purple dye — has been independently tested and verified free of harmful substances.

Can I buy these as part of a multipack?

Yes — purchasing 10 or more products unlocks a 15% discount. Clear Purple pairs naturally in a rotation with light grey melange, navy, and black for a cool-toned wardrobe rotation that covers formal, smart casual, and creative contexts. See all curated multipacks →
